Kristyn Echterling Savage, PH.D., CAAB, BCBA-D
Dr. Kristyn Echterling-Savage is the co-founder and CEO of Beyond the Dog, LLC. Before opening Beyond the Dog with her husband, Sean Savage, she received her Ph.D. in Behavioral Analysis at the University of St. Louis. After that, Dr. Echterling-Savage became one of about 50 Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists in the country through the Animal Behavior Society. She is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
Dr. Echterling-Savage serves as a supervisor, assisting Beyond the Dog trainers throughout our various locations. As a supervisor, she understands the significance of research for building and improving relationships with owners and their dogs. Additionally, as a dog behavior expert, she also focuses on teaching trainers to use empirically validated treatments. As a result, clients can rest assured that our training strategies are effective.
Dr. Echterling-Savage actively researches new ways to improve assessment tools so that trainers can make the most of their training time. She also validates treatments that are already in use for animal training and develops interventions that assist owners in effectively using said treatments. In fact, she has presented her research at professional conferences and seminars throughout the United States.
Kristyn divides her time between St. Louis and Houston, supporting both offices and all Beyond the Dog’s trainers. She incorporates the science of behavior in her everyday life, going further than just dog and cat training. Additionally, she shares her home with a German Shorthaired Pointer and small, mixed breed, two cats, and a sulcata tortoise. In short, Dr. Echterling-Savage is passionate about pets and their training.
