Kristyn Echterling Savage, PH.D., CAAB, BCBA-D
Dr. Kristyn Echterling-Savage is CEO and a co-founder of Beyond the Dog, LLC. She received her Ph.D. in Behavioral Analysis at the University of Kansas. After that, Dr. Echterling-Savage became a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist through the Animal Behavior Society. She is one of less than 50 individuals in the entire country with the certification. She is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and holds a Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis. Additionally, Dr. Echterling-Savage is also a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
Dr. Echterling-Savage primarily serves as a supervisor, assisting Beyond the Dog’s trainers throughout Kansas City and Houston. She cultivates the importance of research, and it’s significance in building and improving relationships with dogs and their owners. As a dog behavior expert, she focuses on teaching trainers to use empirically validated treatments so clients can be sure the training methods are effective.
Dr. Echterling-Savage is also actively involved in the research. Her research interests are twofold. Primarily, she focuses on improving assessment tools such that trainers can make the best use of the training time. Secondarily, she validates treatments already used in dog training and develops interventions that help owners more effectively use those treatments. She has presented her research at professional conferences and seminars throughout the United States.
Kristyn divides her time between Kansas City and Houston, supporting both offices and all of Beyond the Dog’s trainers. She incorporates the science of behavior in her everyday life, extending beyond dog and cat training. She shares her home with a German Shorthaired Pointer and small, mixed breed, two cats, and a sulcata tortoise.
