Mike earned his Bachelor’s degree in Companion Animal Science from Texas Tech University where he participated in research in canine olfaction. As a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, animal behavior is his greatest passion in life, and he enjoys every new opportunity he can to interact with some of his favorite animals.
Mike got involved in working with dogs through volunteering at animal shelters, training and rehabilitating the animals to be successfully placed in permanent homes. With over 8 years of experience working with a variety of animals, Mike furthered his experience in training when he got involved in the sport of disc dog with his personal dogs. Before joining Beyond the Dog, Mike worked in veterinary medicine, helping owners and their pets with behavioral issues, as well as instructing a variety of puppy and dog training classes.
Mike currently shares his home with his Great Dane, Dune, and two Border Collies, Finley and Riley. He still enjoys playing frisbee and trick training with his dogs as well as spending time outdoors hiking, snowboarding, wakesurfing, and riding horses!
