Beyond the Dog is offering its professional Austin TX pet training services. Our puppy training can cover anything from potty training, severe aggression, to off-leash obedience. You can even start your service dog training here. The Beyond the Dog trainers are the best in the business, and they train for everything. Our number one priority is the communication and relationship between dogs and dog owners.
Meet the Experts
The greatest draw for our company is the credentials behind our trainers. Each of them has a bachelor’s degree in either animal science or animal behavior, but all went the extra mile. For example, Alexandra Malone already had an MBA from Europe but went back to earn two Master’s degrees in Psychology and Anthrozoology. The majority of our trainers are CPDT-KA’s, or Certified Professional Dog Trainers- Knowledge Assessed, through the CCPDT.
Our CFO and one of Beyond the Dog’s founders, Sean Savage, has his bachelor’s, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, and more. He has over 20 years of experience training dogs and pets under his belt. Sean’s most proud that he is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, or CDBC. At Beyond the Dog, he works as one of our personal trainers and trains the staff.
Dr. Kristyn Echterling-Savage is our CEO and the other Beyond the Dog founder. She is a Doctor, Ph.D., Behavioral Psychology from the University of Kansas. She also is a CPDT-KA and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst at the doctoral level (BCBA-D). Her most esteemed honor is as a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, or CAAB, one of less than fifty in the country. Together, Sean and Kristyn live with their two young animal lovers, their German Pointer, mixed-breed, two cats, and a scalata tortoise.
Dr. Echterling-Savage stays involved in the field’s ongoing research. She designs all our Austin TX pet training programs from the ground up. We make sure to incorporate it into our behavior modification.
Our Pet Training Programs
You can probably tell from our credentials that we have the most expertise with training dogs. However, we all have a lot of experience training all kinds of pets. Many of our trainers in Austin are familiar enough training cats to call themselves experts. We have programs for your feline friends but also parrots, ferrets, rabbits, and pot-bellied pigs. All of these pets and dogs can enroll in our private in-home training, video chat consultations, and executive program. Dogs, cats, and small animals each have their own versions of these.
Private In-Home Pet Training
In our in-home training, your personal trainer comes to your home. This program is ideal for those that live in the Austin area, Round Rock, Cedar Creek, or around our sister locations in Houston TX or Kansas City MO. Here, we cover housebreaking, play biting, chewing, storm phobia, separation anxiety, and a couple of obedience behaviors.
Even if this is convenient for you, it is also beneficial for your pet. First of all, your pet gets to learn the behaviors in the same place they will perform them from now on. For example, you can imagine how this would improve a potty-training routine. Additionally, we can minimize distractions and anxieties by teaching them where they are already comfortable.
We typically schedule two to three private lessons, a week or two apart each. A half-hour of the first training session is a consultation where you and your trainer discuss your goals and come up with an action plan. From there, they show you how to implement the program at home. The next sessions are to review, correct any mistakes, or help with any additional problems.
Video Chat Consultations
We want to be able to help as much people who need pet training as we can. For those that we cannot make it to and live outside our range of service, we designed our video chat training program. With this, you get a one-on-one conversation with our personal trainer, where you can get help with whatever you need. We can aid you with most behaviors we cover in our private in-home training. Video chats are ideal if you could benefit from advice, tips, tricks, or just a starting off point.
In this program, pets follow a more intense schedule. They train for three days a week. On two of the days, they work independently with your trainer. On the last day, you join them and learn what they worked on. With this, we can cover more obedience behaviors and more behavioral issues like low-level reactivity.
Cats and smaller furry and feathered friends can come to the executive program if they are dealing with aggression. We recommend it for any severe problem behaviors. However, the case is different for dogs. They can use far more training. If you are suffering from a dog exhibiting aggressive behavior, you should enroll them in either our board and train or all-inclusive package.
An aggressive animal in the home creates a dangerous situation for everyone involved. You should treat it as an immediate concern and address it right away. Although, you need to seek professional help. If you try to use the wrong method, then your dog’s anxiety, fear, and aggression could become worse.
Board and Train
When you board your dog with us, they get an extended “camp” in the home of one of our personal trainers. This way, they receive the individualize and consistent attention and training they need to conquer severe behavior problems or accomplish high-level obedience training.
Out of all our Austin TX pet training, this is our most popular, and also our most intense. Dogs work five days a week, four without you and one with you. All this time allows us to accomplish whatever your goals are, severe problem behavior or advance training.
Maintenance is for puppy graduates that want to continue their doggie education. You can continue to work on aggression or work on higher-level training. We can fade out treats and rewards, train around distractions and other dogs, and for off-leash behavior.
